USDA announces additional food purchase program

Secretary of the U.S. Department of agriculture Sonny Perdue announced details of food purchases in the third quarter of fiscal year 2020 on Monday (May 4) and promised to buy 32 products to provide more support to producers and communities in need due to the impact of the epidemic. Perdue said AMS will buy a wide range of fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy and seafood products that will be provided to USDA's food and nutrition services nutrition assistance program and the food bank.


"President Trump's authorization of USDA to support farmers affected by national emergencies further demonstrates his firm support for the American people at an unprecedented time," Perdue said


"Farmers and ranchers in the United States have experienced supply chain dislocation caused by coronavirus. The USDA is uniquely positioned to buy these foods and deliver them to the hungry Americans who need them most. "


The purchase list includes: dairy products US $120 million, potatoes US $50 million, turkey products US $50 million, seafood US $40 million, strawberries US $35 million, pork products US $30 million, cat fish products US $30 million, chicken US $30 million, orange juice US $25 million, sour cherry US $20 million, raisin US $15 million, sweet potato US $10 million, asparagus US $5 million, pear US $5 million Five million dollars for plums.
